I’ve probably seen every film and TV version of “Wuthering Heights” (in addition to having read the book several times) . When I ordered this DVD I wondered if it would really add anything to my collection. The respond is yes. The actors manage to pull off the most difficult task for this story: Making the characters sympathetic. Considering that faithful family servant Ellen is the only affirm of normalcy and stability in a nest of emotionally driven and self-centered people, most of them obsessed with revenge, self-destruction, and/or death, that’s a feat. (The four episodes are titled “The First Revenge,” “The Second Revenge,” etc.) Angela Scoular as Cathy Earnshaw comes across as wayward but often enchanting–in many films Cathy is honest a, ahem, female dog. A young Ian McShane plays Heathcliff. He has the same deep (but somewhat less gravelly) philosophize as in “Deadwood,” the same semi-scarcastic, semi-Shakespearean delivery–and having not yet acquired jowels, he’s broodingly fine. The 1960s black-and-white format seems a bit passe today, but it some ways it adds power. The climate looks frigid and wet, the fields ogle stony, the scarce trees peep blasted. The Wuthering Heights farmhouse looks drafty, dirty, and crudely furnished. Food looks unappetizing; it consists largely of porridge and tea. This cheerless atmosphere is greatly aided by a soundtrack of constantly whistling wind, for both indoor and outdoor scenes. I was literally so cool that I turned the heat up to spy this series.

But first, here’s a tiny backstory. ZIM was on the verge of being cancelled by the time the second season was started. The first season ended with TAK, and the first seven episodes of season two were already being keen. Then Reduce pulled the stagger on the present. But not after one last episode Jhonen proposed to do to demolish the series with a bang. So, ‘The Most Rank Xmas Ever,’ which was scheduled to be made reach the ruin of season two, was pushed up and made, thus explaining Minimoose’s fresh appearence. Minimoose did have an introduction, but it was never completed. So ‘Xmas’ aired, and the remaining six completed episodes were shown around the world, but not here in the US. And now, we can finally scrutinize them. Recognize Dib conjure up the broken-down being Mortos der Soulstealer! MARVEL at the nasty pig girl that is Gaz! GASP at ZIM eating waffles for eleven whole minutes!

There will be commentary for almost all episodes, and also the animatics of course. But I hope they include some of the artwork, scripts, and other things they had completed for the incomplete season two episodes. There were at least ten that were at least laid out. Four episodes even got recorded: “Return of Keef,” where Keef makes a triumphant return, “Mopiness of Doom,” where Dib tries to do Precise science, “Simon Says Doom,” where ZIM babysits kids, and “Nubs of Doom,” Minimoose’s premier episode. But, these are honest things I hope are on the DVD. I didn’t want to win anyone’s hopes up if they’re not.

This DVD is very apt because it has unaired episodes such as

I was able to peek this film already and it is a hilarious yet serious lift on overconsumption in America. Reverend Billy and his choir discontinuance at shopping malls across the country from Original York to California to declare songs and confront consumerism with a feel reminiscent to the Borat movie. It’s a quasi-documentary and should be viewed by everyone in this country. There are only a few interviews with experts on consumerism but this movie is a generous starting point for further research on consumerism. It is light enough to be enjoyed by children yet enlightening for adults as well. Hopefull the DVD will feature heavier bonus shriek that adds to the negate at hand. Scenes at the Mall of America, Disneyland, and carolling about consumption to wealthy families are not to be missed!! Observe it.

Last Tumble, when this movie was in the theaters, I asked my 18-year-old daughter to join me, as a special favor. She went to please her mother, not because she really understanding it would be excellent. After all, it had “Jesus” in the title, and my Sunday-school-raised child had long since decided that church and Jesus wasn’t really for her. Well, she (and I) laughed heartily at this movie, many times, as it also seriously convicted us, challenged us to evaluate our spending. My daughter is now looking forward to sharing this film with friends. She wants to have friends over to the house to conception it. It’s been 6 months since we watched it, and thoughts of seeing it again brings forth laughter and reminders to be aware of our spending habits, our wants and our perceived “needs.” This film touches on all ages — children, teens and adults, bright everyone to acquire a serious stare at their motivations. Hooray for those that have the courage to point out how obscene our consumerism has gone.

It’s All Gone Pete Tong is really a rather amazing motion recount that has all the earmarks of a cult indie sensation. I guess we should cloak a couple of things correct off the bat, however. Who is Pete Tong, you ask? Well, he’s a DJ, and he is in this movie – but only for a few moments. You sight, this movie isn’t about Pete Tong at all. It is actually about Frankie Wilde, a wildly successful DJ (and I mean DJ as in music-mixing genius and not “and that was the latest hit from so-and-so, and it’s 52 degrees here at 5:00 on a busy traffic day” radio swear) who overcame the tragedy of deafness to manufacture a tremendous and mysterious comeback. These movie fellows do a stout job of making this mockumentary appear to be a real-life biopic, but Frankie Wilde and his unbelievable myth are purely fictional. That fact doesn’t really change anything, though, as this is composed an inspirational film that will surely captivate you.

Buy,Download, Or Stream It’s All Gone Pete Tong! Click Here

It’s an oddly noteworthy sage built around a less than likeable fellow who eventually wins you over with his intense suffering and his heroic efforts to finally build his life support on track. In his prime, Frankie Wilde is a celebrity who lives every bit of the high life – drowning his liver in alcohol, snorting bagful after bagful of cocaine, spirited many a lady, and generally doing everything in a disconnected, vainglorious fashion. The movie pulls no punches in showing us Frankie at his most disgusting. Once he begins to lose his hearing, however, you can’t back but feel sorry for him. He covers it up for as long as he possibly can, but – obviously – a man in his profession can’t shroud up such a devastating truth forever. Once he learns that he is indeed going completely deaf, his life hits rock bottom. He basically loses everything, including his wife and son along with his career. It’s not a magnificent inspect at all, and he eventually holes himself up in his gain pitifully constructed rubber room for months on raze, basically surviving on drugs alone. His cocaine addiction is presented in a most forcible procedure – the monkey on his serve is actually a disgusting broad badger in a fairy story outfit that isn’t above smacking Frankie around when he threatens to gash befriend on the snorting. It sounds ridiculous, but the imagery works frighteningly well.

In time, Frankie decides to salvage his disability and try to reenter the world; he gives up the drugs (but not the booze), finds someone to advise him the art of lip-reading, and eventually rediscovers his music. In essence, he develops the ability to feel and examine music all around him and to channel it all into some excellent grooves that fuel the most astounding of comebacks.

Buy,Download, Or Stream It’s All Gone Pete Tong! Click Here

This movie isn’t unbiased about Frankie’s fantastic tale, however. It also seems to have something to say about the music industry and the callousness of greedy managers and promoters who care about nothing apart from the money their stars generate for them. Frankie was a star, but no one stuck around to wait on him through a tragedy that almost and probably should have resulted in his death. The ending of the film, which doesn’t follow the path you would normally inquire, strongly but quietly reinforces this critique of the shallowness of success.

The scenes of Frankie’s emotional breakdown truly are dim and disturbing, and there is considerable in the film as a whole to elaborate its R rating. The film also has its humorous moments, but this is a lawful unlit comedy. I have to say that Paul Kaye is spectacular in the role of Frankie, lending a vitality and brute strength to an unforgettable character who will disgust you, amuse you, and eventually inspire you. I don’t know how else to say it: It’s All Gone Pete Tong is impartial a uniquely fabulous film.

It’s All Gone Pete Tong was realeased theatrically in the US starting April 14, 2005, and for some reason it never found grand of an audience, though everyone seemed to have heard of it. I suspect that it’s because the majority of the people who will most delight in this film are not generally theater-goers and take watching movies at home. That said, however, everyone I know who did inspect the film in the theater couldn’t close raving about it.

I can’t wait to gaze this film again once it’s on DVD. I saw it three times in the theater already and totally loved it – I couldn’t cessation raving about it to everyone I know and taking people to discover it!

And Paul Kaye and Mike Wilmot deserve tons of award recognition for thier performances in this movie, arrive the season.

I hope this movie willl not continue to be overlooked!!!

2008 seems to be the year for Chinese tale dramas. “An Empress and the Warriors” was released before the “Romance of Three Kingdoms” related films by Daniel Lee (Three Kingdoms) and John Woo (Red Cliff) . The film is helmed by Tony Ching Siu Tang (Naked Weapon) and if you are familiar with this director’s past works, you’ll know that he is a sterling action director. However, I do gain the skill of top-notch storytelling eludes him–”An Empress and the Warriors” is pure brainless fun, with decent production values and may well be a superior “date” movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream An Empress and the Warriors! Click Here

After the kingdom of Yan is mortally wounded after a battle with the Zhao army, the king chooses to leave mumble to an orphan, named Muyong Xuehu (Donnie Yen) who is not related to the royal family. This mettlesome decision raises the ire of Hu Ban (Guo Xiao-Dong), the king’s nephew who is ready and willing to lead. Yan Feier (Kelly Chen) is the king’s daughter and was bestowed the sacred “Swallow sword” (I know!) as her father’s dying wish, to give to Muyong. However, when the time came to narrate Muyong’s promotion, Hu Ban and Diao Erbao renounces the claim saying that the king should not be one with no royal blood in his veins. To retain the peace and avoid mutiny, Feier seizes power with Muyong’s support–and undergoes military training to exhibit her worthiness to lead. Hu Ban plots to discredit the princess before she is crowned as the empress, assassination is even an option –a power struggle threatens to weaken the foundations of the Yan Kingdom.

I’m not positive how to launch, the film’s space is so flimsy and uninspired. It abandons the potentials of a conspiracy during a period when leadership is significant in favor of a budding romance between Feier and Duan (played by Leon Lai) which makes rather fun but definitely predictable and tedious. The character of Feier does search for like a princess but the design she is portrayed by the script is rather amusing and lacks credibility. Kelly Chen does gape like a dazzling princess, but the kind that would act in a disney movie. The script by James Yuen Sai-sang is also very light, the threat of destruction is overshadowed by romance? I’m not distinct, Feier and Muyong kept on referring to her as the “one to unite the country” but objective what is this “Yan Kingdom”? All that came to conception are buildings and shacks and aside from the ninjas and Duan, no popular folk is visible. I do feel that the war backdrop is honest meant as a state blueprint to net sympathy and to region up the scenes of overdone sentimentality.

Buy,Download, Or Stream An Empress and the Warriors! Click Here

While I also disliked its spend of the usual histrionics, the film does have some charm. However, amazing and stylish Kelly Chen’s training sequences with Donnie Yen, it has somewhat diverting. However, the film abandons this map rather speedy and falls to the usual romantic gimmicks. The romance between Duan and Feier may be nice to the female species but it fair kills the film’s overall impact. I concept I was in a unimaginative teen flick, and while the screenplay has the usual elements of loyalty, sacrifice, duty, compassion and betrayal, it never executed them well enough and opted for a perfunctory romance to add complications to its premise of a “threatened kingdom”. The storyline unprejudiced wasn’t inviting and lacked inspiration, the film isn’t compelling and consuming.

The acting for the most allotment is a mixed bag. Kelly Chen is very lovely and charismatic but I had some reservations as to how convincing she was as a strong-willed princess. I would give her the assist of a doubt since the script is so dry that it gave her so diminutive to work with. Her acting is very cute and charming, her interactions with the tree-dwelling Duan may appeal to the female audience, but it suffers from a lack of consistency that doesn’t fit into the film’s station. The film does have broad continuity issues and feels undercooked. Donnie Yen will be Donnie Yen–complete with his overacting.

Now as for the action sequences, there are quite a great number of them. Director Tony Ching knows his stuff when shooting action sequences. He uses multiple camera angles and the moves are visually impressive. The ninja-like assassins and the promenade sequences were very wintry. The assault in the tree-home of Duan is fast-paced and stylish, complete with chilly close-ups with attitude. The battle scenes were decent but not in the same caliber as other Chinese epics of this kind. There is some blood as folks are stabbed and impaled in some very sensitive places. The action has a lot of posturing with attitude complete with the wind blowing strands of hair. Donnie Yen is a very showy actor but none can lisp that he does have a presence as a martial artist. Yen is complete with bone-crushing machismo as he fights hundreds of Hu Ban’s foot soldiers in the final act. Truly exaggerated and unrealistic appeal for an legend but obedient enough for an action movie.

So what is the final verdict? Well, the usual stereotypical Hong Kong “cuteness” unprejudiced would never match the tone and atmosphere of Mainland China’s Memoir Wuxia films. You can disclose that the film should have a more serious tone and to incorporate a cute romance into its premise honest bores the heck out of me. The action choreography does reveal diverting and all it all the film is honest a practice of a mainstream stylish action flick. The leads are definitely photogenic and the visuals were decent; this film is definitely geared to fans of these performers who would look anything they appear in. “An Empress and the Warriors” is objective another of those dumb commercial flicks that should be watched with VERY coarse expectations. It is watchable for 90 minutes but definitely a forgettable experience; it objective fails in comparison to the best China has to offer.

Rental [2 ½ Stars]

This movie is the valid reason I’ve stopped watching most everything out of Hollywood. This movie makes all of the so called “blockbusters” or “epics” witness like high school class projects made by slackers and stoners. If you’ve never seen Hong Kong cinema, or consider that all Chinese movies are objective Kung Fu flicks with unpleasant dubbing, you are in for an improbable surprise. This is better than Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, or even Hero. Behold this movie, then win it.

I’m so furious! I Care For the modern Mulan, and I was hoping this would be half as expedient as the first. It wasn’t even that.

First of all, the music is poor and the animation lacks the romance, vision, and slouch of the new. The new team worked hard with their concepts, which was distinct. Whoever made made this…did not.

Second, the insist talent was severely lacking this time around. Even the characters who ended up with the same direct actors sounded a bit flat. Like the actors were rushed or as if they impartial didn’t really care.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mulan II! Click Here

Third, everyone seemed out of character! Not fair their speech patterns, but in some cases their movements, manner, and ENTIRE PERSONALITIES were unprejudiced…severely diminished or entirely changed. These are not the characters I fell in savor with! At all!

Fourth, everything was disgustingly predictable. Gee…Mulan’s three male friends are looking for wives and unbiased HAPPEN to assist guard the three glowing princesses? Golly…WHAT WILL HAPPEN? DUH. Can we say formula-written? The whole sage was unbiased…disappointing and derivative.

Fifth, I found it insulting to broken-down Chinese culture. Unbiased because our new Western culture does not deem highly of or participate in arranged marriage doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, or that it wasn’t popular THERE. In fact, it is unexcited widely practiced in many countries, and you know what? It often works out! It was a fragment of peoples culture, quiet IS a share of peoples culture, and ISN’T tainted. I found this movies’ villifying of arranged marriage and all who participate in it to be very insulting and typical “our USA plot is the BEST procedure and the ONLY design, and everything else is Substandard”. I hope they never showed this movie over in China, or else I’ll be very embarassed for the USA.

Sixth…ugh, nevermind. I don’t even want to believe about this bad movie anymore. They should have left the Mulan series as a single movie – the one that retold the unusual memoir. But, being Disney, they objective HAD to add a crappy sequel and capitalize on the incredible unique movie.

The only reason this got 2 stars instead of one? Although the scene at the bridge has been done a million times over and is NOT unique at all, it was well-done. Brought a budge to my gawk, I admit. But it was a cheaply gained gallop, because I’ve seen the same scene in 92752375 different movies.

DO NOT look this movie if you esteem the unique and don’t want your vision of it bad. This movie is crap.

The chronicle of Mulan II begins with Mulan thinking about marrying General Shang… which upsets one of Mulan’s spirit guides (Mushu) so powerful that he decides to sabotage their relationship. Mushu is tremulous that he will be demoted if Mulan goes through with her plans to marry General Shang, because tradition calls for the wife’s spirit guides to lose their pedestals in the household shrine at the time of marriage, meaning that they would then be subordinated to the husband’s ancestors. The tale moves relieve to Mulan and Shang, who are asked by the Emperor to provide first-rate passage for the Emperor’s three daughters across China, so that they can be married to three princes in order to bring peace to China. Mulan and Shang proceed with three trusted soldiers, who drop in care for with the princesses in their care… as Mushu begins his plans to smash Mulan and Shang up. Mulan II is chubby of jokes, songs, and an essential message about following your heart. My popular fraction of the film was one of the opening scenes, in which Mulan describes the importance of yin and yang in a magnificent song and dance number. This is a fun family movie, with appealing special features, too.

This movie faithfully captures the essence of the book and brings it to life. When I read the book I honest loved it. Shortly after I finished reading the book, I found out that HBO was going to point to the movie, but I didn’t have HBO. So when I saw that it had arrive out on DVD, I knew I had to select it. When I got it, I popped it in lawful away and WOW, I was pleasantly surprised. It followed the book very well and wasn’t “Hollywood-ized”.

I warn that this movie isn’t very action-packed, but it’s a stout engrossing drama. I recommend it to anyone looking to survey an knowing, well-made movie.

In Louisiana in 1948 a young sunless man named Jefferson (Mekhi Phifer) makes the fatal mistake of accepting a jog from another pair of young men. When they terminate at a local store to accumulate some beer the other men do not have enough money and the white storeowner will not give them credit. Guns are drawn and everybody ends up insensible but Jefferson, who is arrested for the crime. Since this is a quiz of murky and white justice in the South before the Civil Rights Movement, Jefferson is condemned to be executed. The fact that he is innocent of the dependable killings is not famous to this 1999 HBO movie adapted from the fresh by Ernest J. Gaines (“The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman”) . Nobody is going to establish Jefferson from his fate. The focus here is not on justice, but rather on death with dignity.

Buy,Download, Or Stream A Lesson Before Dying! Click Here

The key moment is not what happened in the store but rather what is said during the trial, when Jefferson’s defense attorney, a white lawyer, seeks to achieve his client’s life by saying that Jefferson is like a hog. That is to say, as a Negro Jefferson is no more shimmering than a hog and not top-notch of thought what he is doing, therefore he should not be convicted. The jury, no doubt well acquainted with the practice of barbeque, has no more qualms about having Jefferson executed than they would of slaughtering a hog for a feast. But Jefferson’s mother, Miss Emma (Irma P. Hall), and his aunt Tante Lou (Cicely Tyson), are outraged that the boy has been called a hog. So they badger local schoolteacher Grant Wiggins (Don Cheadle), the only educated unlit man in town, to visit Jefferson in jail and convince him that he is a man and not a hog.

Now, this is certainly an exciting notion. After all, the premise of white supremacy is that Negroes are not human, with the belief that they were property rather than people codified in the U.S. Constitution as well as implicit in the practice of slavery. If Jefferson accepts this characterization, advanced by his hold attorney and inherent in the social system in which he lives, then convincing him otherwise is a safe concern. The flaw here is that I was not convinced that Jefferson understanding he was a hog rather than a man. Maybe my predicament is that Jefferson is played by an actor who is playing a doctor on “ER,” not to mention the fact that I reject the opinion of racial superiority or inferiority. But since his family accepts the fact that the white justice system is going to end Jefferson I would be inclined to consider he would be of a similar mind and that he would not prefer his lawyer’s simile to heart. However, you really have to gain the premise or else the movie cannot have the requisite transformations at the kill.

“A Lesson Before Dying” which won the 1999 Emmy for Outstanding Made for Television Movie, is one of those movies adapted from a unique where I have not read the book but I kill up thinking the depth it provides probably fixes a lot of the film’s shortcomings. Obviously I reflect the fault is to be found in Ann Peacock’s Emmy winning screenplay, because the performances by the cast and as well-behaved as you would examine them to be, but if you retract the story’s premise from the beginning then you will not be having a major spot with director Joseph Sargent’s film. Given the Civil Rights Movement to reach what becomes appealing is not so powerful the battle by Wiggins to communicate with Jefferson, but the conflict between the teacher and Reverend Ambrose (Brent Jennings) over what is best for the condemned young man. Does death with dignity preclude salvation or does the quest for salvation require acceptance of your fate?

Ultimately, the character who learns the most is Wiggins, as the teacher becomes the student. Wiggins is a college educated dark man in a location where few of either color win such formal education. He resists being asked to do this task because it means going backwards, giving up some of his absorb dignity to go with hat in hand to ask the white men to be allowed to meet with Jefferson. The fact that Wiggins wants to marry a light-skinned Negro woman becomes fraction of this equation as well, because “A Lesson Before Dying” indicts the schoolteacher for turning his support on his accelerate (indeed, there is a scene where his remarks to his students are as demeaning as those of any of the white characters) . By the extinguish of the film life with dignity is the goal.

This is classic Blacksploitation! I am such a expansive fan of the genre, that when I heard a soundbite from Detroit 9000 on the Jackie Brown soundtrack, I knew that I had to search for the movie. And, even better, it had Quentin Tarantino’s designate of approval. More than enough for me!

A gritty, verbalize it like it is white cop is assigned to acquire the men who robbed the fundraiser for the first dark man to bustle for Govenor of the status of Michigan. When he realizes that he can’t do it alone, he reluctantly agrees to let a young shadowy cop, who happens to be an up-and-comer, serve him out. What follows is a mess of gun fights, funky music, and plain pimps. All culminating in probably one of the biggest shootouts/chase scenes in film history! My jaw was dropped and my eyes were inaugurate in amazement as Detroit cops and the robbers chased each other all over town whilst expending thousands of rounds of ammo. The ending came as quite a surprise, and nothing that I had seen coming. This film is a very obliging movie, especially for blacksploitation, and it is a total blast. I watched this on a Friday night with some friends, made some remarks(ala Mystery Science Theater 3000), and totally had a stout time. If you like blackploitation, peruse this. If you like action films, with millions of bullets, and bloody gunfights, observe this. And if you like cop movies with vast trip scenes, examine this! I would fancy it if Tarantino remade this film, and keep Sam Jackson in it. A lot of fun, and worth your time. Hey, if you took the effort to view it up, do yourself a favor and behold it.

This is the only non-documentary film that I know of to engage anything of the life in Detroit experience. It is a must-see film for anyone who’s spent any serious time in Motown. There are classic Detroit scenes such the drive up the Cobo Hall ramp, a dialogue scene in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame inside Cobo, the ragged Top Hat Coney off Great Circus Park, a functioning Book-Cadillac Hotel, a skyline before the RenCen, and even a B.C./Marathon sticker and Detroit Tigers “Bill Freehan in action” calendar! This film has early-70s Detroit written all over it. Yet, this film also goes beyond its local setting as well. Its no wonder Tarantino has a special regard for this film. It shows the racial hypocrisy of institutions and the establishment. There is racial opportunism and strife among the politicians and police chiefs. So it is no mistake that the criminals in this film are the only ones racially mixed working in cohesion. The final whisk scene is not actually a paddle but a slaughter akin to the S.W.A.T./Patty Hearst scene. All the establishment figures are out for themselves, yet they lie continually about racial harmony to mask their ambitions. The thieves are out for themselves yet they’re together and have assign aside their racial differences. This is a fresh film. Too dreadful the acting wasn’t better. Also the editing is a bit staid. Once you glean unhurried these rough spots you’ll observe a film with a very compelling chronicle line.

It is however, a agreeable presentation of the rise of the steel industry, I exercise it in my classroom.

Instead of being named “AC and the Age of Steel,” it should have been named “The Age of Steel with Andrew Carnegie.” This documentary is more about steel than this eminent rich guy. They don’t even bring up Carnegie until one-fifth of the blueprint into the work. They point to about two photos of him and that’s all. You never learn if he went to college, what charities he supported, or how he died. They prove a photo of Carnegie with a man I acquire to be Booker T. Washington. Did Carnegie aid Shaded colleges or other African-American causes of the time? This work never answers: all it does is focus on steel. I can’t have that the History Channel actually conception a marketable number of people would want to know about that. Leave that monotonous stuff in an engineering classroom! I liked that the interviewees came from a diverse range of universities in the South and North. I loathe that I’m buying into ideas that only “huge men” are marvelous of historical works.
